Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked from Manchester United

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has reportedly turned down Manchester United ‘s offer to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as boss.

The Norwegian was dismissed from his post in the Old Trafford hot-seat on Sunday morning after overseeing a number of disastrous results in recent weeks.

Zidane’s United rejection could in turn spark a managerial merry-go-round, as the ex-Los Blancos boss is rumoured to be interested in taking the Paris Saint-Germain role should current manager Mauricio Pochettino end up in Manchester.

After five defeats in their last seven league outings, Solskjaer’s job became untenable as United languish as low as eighth in the table – 12 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly rejected Manchester United’s proposals to take over as manager

Three-time Champions League winning boss Zidane has long-been linked with a move to Man Utd, but has often distanced himself from the role with those close to him claiming a job in English football does not interest him.

Spanish outlet El Partidazo de COPE ‘s recent report supports that theory, with Zidane not keen on testing himself in the Premier League.

The rumour mill went into overdrive after Zidane’s former teammate Emmanuel Petit claimed the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner was taking lessons to improve his English.

Zidane’s wife Veronique is thought to be against a switch to Manchester specifically, instead preferring her husband continue his sabbatical and turn down any job offers that come his way anytime soon.

However, an opportunity to return to work in his home country could soon present itself at the home of French giants PSG.

Pochettino is currently the man in the Parc Des Princes hot-seat, but could prove easier for the United board to entice and take the reins at Old Trafford.

The Argentine is another name on the shortlist to take charge of an expensively-assembled struggling United side.

If he were to leave PSG, it is likely the club’s board reach out to Zidane to gauge his interest in taking over.

talkSPORT report that club legend Sir Alex Ferguson favours Pochettino and is leading the campaign for the former Spurs boss to join before the season’s end.

Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s ideal candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

A number of talented coaches have been identified as alternatives, including Ajax boss Erik Ten-Hag and current Spain national team manager Luis Enrique.

The latter of whom is rumoured to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s ideal appointment, despite the two previously sharing a rivalry in La Liga in their Real Madrid and Barcelona days.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has also been forced to field questions over the likelihood of him calling time on his stint at the King Power and upping sticks to Old Trafford.
