Edge def. Seth Rollins | Hell in a Cell
The WWE preshow showed the Edge vs. Seth Rollins video package just before airing Crown Jewel, only to show the exact same package moments later to kick off the show.
Part of the pageantry of this show featured camels on the stage.
Judging by Edge’s raucous reaction alone, this crowd seemed like an upgrade compared to prior crowds in Saudi Arabia. The crowd even chanted “this is awesome” as the match started.
Jessika Carr officiated this match wearing sleeves.
If the story of this feud is Edge questioning whether or not Seth Rollins is at his level, Rollins almost has to win.
Rollins planted Edge with an unprettier, and Michael Cole described it as Rollins planting Edge “with his own move.” Christian has clearly been erased from WWE lore for the time being.
By the time Seth Rollins bounced off the cell and through the table, I was convinced we were in the midst of an all-time Hell in a Cell match.
Mansoor def. Mustafa Ali
Of all the matches that had to follow an instant classic between Edge and Seth Rollins, poor Mansoor had to do it in his own hometown, but thankfully, he received one of the biggest reactions of the night.
This was the first time two Muslims went one-on-one in a WWE pay-per-view in history.
In hindsight, given how hot this crowd was for its hometown hero, this might have been the only match that could have followed Edge vs. Seth Rollins.
This had a fantastic finish with Ali hitting a springboard neckbreaker to win.
Tareg Hamedi, an Olympic silver medalist in karate from Saudi Arabia, received one of the loudest pops you’ll hear anywhere before kicking Ali in the head.
Riddle and Randy Orton def. AJ Styles and Omos | WWE Raw Tag Team Championship
Riddle had the perfect entrance where he rode a camel to the ring like only he could.
I swear I’ve seen this exact match, move-for-move, on Raw, right down to the finish but it was still a good match.
Following this match, I learned that Becky Lynch and fellow Irishman Kevin Patrick go back to the old country.
Zelina Vega def. Doudrop | Queen’s Crown Finals
This Queen’s Crown match was going to tell us a lot about the style of wrestling we’ll see from the women throughout the night and whether it will be more intense/aggressive than the first match between Natalya and Lacey Evans.
The crowd took this match off, which was basically a typical David vs. Goliath match but with Goliath as the babyface.
This didn’t seem any different than a women’s match you would see in the states as there was less of a ceremonial feel to it now that WWE broke the seal on women’s wrestling in Saudi Arabia.
WWE finally seems to be doing something with Zelina Vega as a wrestler, but that still remains to be seen as she’s just as liable to lose in her next match based on WWE’s erratic booking.
Goldberg def. Bobby Lashley | No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere
Goldberg has travel halfway across the country to perform in front of a country that gives him the appreciation he deserves.
Goldberg had trouble getting his gloves off after hitting the Jackhammer as WWE played up Goldberg looking to cash in on his death threats to Lashley.
While selling a knee injury, Goldberg used the kendo stick as both a weapon and a cane.
In the end, Goldberg spared Bobby Lashley’s life despite having him dead to rights following a spear off the stage through three tables.
Xavier Woods def. Finn Balor | King of the Ring Finals
Finn Balor and Xavier Woods worked very hard and got the perfect amount of time to really put Woods over clean.
If WWE commits to it, Xavier Woods could be the most entertaining King since King Booker, possibly more entertaining.
Big E def. Drew McIntyre | WWE Championship
Riyadh was all the way back into the show by this point, chanting “this is awesome” just as this match began hitting its peak.
Big E really has to win here, but another world title loss for Drew McIntyre on his way to SmackDown means “Midcard McIntyre” might be here to stay.
Big E teased a Big Ending from the top rope, and when it didn’t happen, I was legitimately disappointed because that would have looked awesome.
Becky Lynch def. Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks | WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bianca Belair’s strength was showcased as, at one point, she Gorilla pressed Sasha Banks with one arm. Crazy as it sounds, she was just getting started. Belair was unreal throughout this match.
Sasha Banks seemed a half-step behind Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair at a few points in this match.
Though it’s a small sample size, and it wasn’t without its faults, this was the greatest women’s match in Saudi history and I don’t see anything surpassing it for a while.
Roman Reigns def. Brock Lesnar | WWE Universal Championship
Today marks the 416th day of Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship reign. CM Punk’s reign was 462, meaning we’re just 47 days from the pettiest of tweets from Roman Reigns and I’m here for it.
Words cannot do justice to the spectacle of Ponytail Brock in full gear.
This match featured dueling chants of “let’s go Roman/Suplex City!”
The early parts of this match were a reverse of their WrestleMania 31 classic as it was Roman Reigns who was dominating Brock Lesnar.
Paul Heyman stood stoically throughout this whole math from ringside, and it’s all he needed to do to further this excellent story that is being told.
Following a (necessary) ref bump, Brock Lesnar paid homage to himself by lifting Charles Robinson up with one hand.
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar paid homage to themselves by playing tug-o-war with the Universal Championship.
Roman Reigns won with outside interference and Paul Heyman is still conflicted. The perfect ending to a feud that needs to continue.
