Nicky and Nadine were working together on a new show called Last Singer Standing last month when Girls Aloud icon Sarah sadly passed away following a cancer battle
Westlife star Nicky Byrne has shared the “devastating” moment Nadine Coyle learned that Sarah Harding had died.
The 43-year-old Westlife star was working alongside 36-year-old Nadine when they learned the sad news that Sarah had passed away at the age of 39.
Nicky and Nadine were working together on a new show called The Last Singer Standing – with the Westlife star in awe of his Girls Aloud friend who managed to continue with work while grieving.
Sarah had been battling against cancer, sharing her diagnosis in August last year before revealing in March this year that the disease had turned terminal – and then passing away last month.
Nicky told The Sun on Sunday: “It was a difficult week filming, especially for Nadine.
“Sarah sadly passed away while we were recording and Nadine was obviously devastated. It was such a sad time.
“Nadine was unbelievable, though. It was so tough for her but she was so professional.
“It was one of those times when everyone tried to give her space to grieve but at the same time be there for her.
“Everyone rallied around her. I don’t know how she did it . . . a real trouper.”
Nadine was left heartbroken following the news of Sarah’s death last month.
Taking to social media after learning of Sarah’s death, the singer wrote in a tribute: “I am absolutely devastated!!
“I can’t think of words that could possibly express how I feel about this girl & what she means to me!! I know so many of you will be feeling this way. For now I’m sending so much love to you!!!!”
Sarah’s mother, Marie, shared the tragic news with fans on Sunday 5 September that Sarah had lost her battle with cancer.
Sharing a photo of the star, she wrote: “It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.
“Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved.
“I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead.”
While a funeral for Sarah has not been announced by her family, they have asked fans to make donations to Christie Hospital – where Sarah was treated for the last 18 months of her life.
