Vernon and his TV host wife Tess Daly have two young daughters together. The former model seems to have a rigorous vetting system ready to be implemented when his daughters start dating to test prospective suitors.
Vernon Kay says he will put any potential boyfriends that his daughters bring home to the test – as he opens up about his approach to parenting.
The 47-year-old model and television host has been married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, 52, since 2003 and together they have two daughters – 17-year-old Phoebe and 12-year-old Amber.
The proud dad says he will be putting prospective boyfriends to the test as part of his personal vetting process.
From the sound of his trials, however, it sounds like Vernon could be able to bag himself a new best friend if his daughter’s boyfriends play their cards right.
The TV host told The Sun: “I’ve not had to deal with boyfriends – yet. When they arrive I will get the toys out the garage. If you can swing a golf club, bonus.
“If you can throw an American football, double bonus. If you can build a rope swing, triple bonus. I’ll be like, ‘Want to come in? Entertain me!’ ”
He went on to give further insight into how he and Tess divide their parenting responsibilities between each other.
Vernon explained: “Tess is really good at those big conversations you need with kids.

“She and I are a reflection of our parents and our girls will be the same. Yes, we came from a different background. But we will still instil the work ethic into our kids that was drummed into us.”
Earlier this month, Vernon shared his pride in his wife, Tess, as she returned to host Strictly for the 17th year in a row.
Praising his wife, Vernon said that she and fellow Strictly host Claudia Winkelman, 49, have helped change the landscape of TV for the better.
He gushed: “Tess and Claudia broke the mould and set the pace for women in TV.
“There are a lot of women behind the camera, and it’s great to see two women of a certain age presenting the BBC’s biggest entertainment show. It’s amazing!”
He went on to explain how he hasn’t got bored of Strictly and is more than happy to spend his Saturday night’s staying in at home to watch his wife on TV.
He said: “As Tess’s husband I get a little bit of insight beforehand. I know what’s coming on the show, which songs they’re dancing to and what routines they’re doing.

“So when I sit down – usually on my own because the kids are like ‘Dad, I’ve been watching this for 16 years – it’s Saturday night’ – I’m so proud watching Tess, as it’s a massive show.”
Meanwhile, Tess recently delighted fans by sharing a throwback photo of herself and Vernon from shortly before their family began to expand.
“Flashback to these young things!” she wrote on Instagram underneath the sweet throwback snap – adding: “Who would have thought I was pregnant with my eldest who’s 17 in a few weeks! Time flies.”
