Travis Scott ‘devastated’ at lives lost during Astroworld concert

Travis Scott reportedly attended an Astroworld Festival afterparty at Dave & Buster’s, but was unaware eight people had died during his gig.

The 29-year-old rapper is said to have headed straight to the shindig following his set and wasn’t told of the chaos that was unfolding.

Hundreds of festival goers were injured on Friday night as well as eight people losing their lives after a crowd control disaster.

Confirmed victims included a 14 and 16-year-old, and people aged from 21 up to 27.

While the official cause of the tragedy remains under investigation, witnesses reported a “mob mentality” may have led to a crowd surge and a crush.

But while the incident happened during Travis’ time on stage, sources say he didn’t know just how bad things were as he headed to party.

A source told TMZ : “Travis didn’t know the severity of the situation when he arrived at the party, as far as timing, this remains consistent with the fact that no one including the police had publicly confirmed the gravity of the events that had taken place.”

The afterparty was held by Drake, who had been a surprise performer alongside Travis during the show. It’s also reported that Drake didn’t have any idea about what was unfolding at NRG Park in Texas as the party got underway.

Travis is said to have left the party as soon as he found out what had happened.

Drake, 35, broke his silence on Monday night with a statement on Instagram.

The star, whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham, told his 95.8 million followers: “I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy.

“I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering.

“I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can.”

He concluded his post: “May God be with you all.”

Travis meanwhile has pledged to pay for the funeral costs of those he died in the tragedy.

He will also partner with BetterHelp to provide free mental health services to all those affected by the tragedy.

A statement released by a representative for Travis said: “Travis Scott will cover all funeral costs and provide further aid for individuals affected by the November 5 tragedy at Astroworld Festival.

“In addition, Travis has partnered with BetterHelp to supply free one-on-one online therapy, and is working closely with NAMI, MHA National, and MHA of Greater Houston (Mental Health America) to direct all those in need to proper mental health services.

“Travis remains in active conversations with the city of Houston, law enforcement and local first responders to respectfully and appropriately connect with the individuals and families of those involved.

“These are the first of many steps Travis plans on taking as a part of his personal vow to assist those affected throughout their grieving and recovery process.”
