Lucas Moura knows just how exciting a time this will be for Newcastle and their supporters.

After all, alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore, the Brazilian was one of the marquee signings Paris Saint-Germain made when their megabucks Middle Eastern owners first rolled into town.

That money made PSG the dominant force in France but that is in a league far weaker than the Premier League and, as history has taught us, it still hasn’t guaranteed the club it craves in Europe, where there are several other clubs with equally deep pockets.

Moura, for whom PSG paid £36million in 2013, said: “It true that you have to get all the ingredients right.

“Everyone knows football is not all about money.

“Of course, it helps.

“But it will bring a lot of expectation because it means they can buy big players, big stars, and make some improvements in the club, the stadium, the training ground…

“So fans become excited because they want titles, they want to see the team winning trophies, winning the Champions League, and it’s good to be involved with.

“Because you as a player have these expectations to win, to perform.”

Moura was just 20 when he moved to Paris.

And he added: “That time was very exciting because I was very young and to have the opportunity to join a big club with a huge project and good players, I was of course very happy.

“I spent five years there and won a lot of titles.

“I was very, very happy and it’s the new era in football.

“We need to adapt with this and, of course, if it is allowed it’s good for football and we keep going trying to do the best for the fans.”

Moura and his Tottenham team-mates know the Geordies will be in party mood but they want to put a dampener on the day by following up their victory over Aston Villa before the international break.

He added: “We really needed the win against Villa because the last three games before were really bad.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping to be the party-pooper at St James’ Park

“Now, hopefully, we can keep going this way, keep winning and getting some points, and it will be very important for the team.

“It’s always very, very hard to play at Newcastle.

“The atmosphere is unbelievable with the fans there, they push their team very well.

“It doesn’t matter what has happened with the club, Newcastle and their fans, when we’re on the pitch just think about the fixture, about performing and scoring goals.

“Everything that happens outside the stadium, outside the pitch, is not our problem.”

While Spurs’ results have been mixed, Moura has made a good start to the season and has been a consistent starter for new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

He said: “I feel very good, very positive for the season.

“We started very, very well and, personally, I am happy with my performances, but I always want to improve, I always want to be better and help the team and we are on the right way, in a good way.

“We have a very good squad.

“We could have done better in the last few games but we can dream of good things this season.”
