Yasir Al-Rumayyan is hoping to attend the game.

He is governor of the state-funded Public Investment Fund which bought an 80pc stake in the £305m deal on Thursday, and is now non-executive Chairman of the Magpies.

The speed of the takeover being resurrected in the past fortnight has taken the club’s football operations by surprise.

Frank McParland, formerly of Rangers, Burnley and Brentford, is the PCP’s football advisor, and helping with the managerial search.

Ex-Dortmund chief Lucien Favre, Brendan Rodgers, Frank Lampard and Rangers’ Steven Gerrard are under consideration.
