Rio Ferdinand has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Manchester United can’t allow Liverpool to pip them to a deal for Jude Bellingham, as fears grow that United could miss out on signing the 18-year-old for a second time.

United chiefs went all out to lure Bellingham to Old Trafford when he left Birmingham last year, only for the youngster to instead join Borussia Dortmund in a £25million deal.

The midfielder has dazzled in the Bundesliga since linking up with Dortmund, registering two goals and three assists in his 11 league games this term.

That form has alerted a host of top clubs, with both United and Liverpool reportedly plotting a future move for the talented teenager.

And Ferdinand has warned that a club like United can’t afford to miss out on signing a player of Bellingham’s calibre.

“Any. He’s that good,” he told the FIVE YouTube channel when asked what role he saw Bellingham filling at Old Trafford.

“Serious. In the England youth teams there are times when he’s played as the holding midfielder.

“[There have been] times he’s played as the No.8 and been box-to-box. And also times when he’s been told he can join the attacks more.

“He has the capabilities and capacity to play all of the roles, he’s that good.

“I think for him, I see him as being someone who can do it all. There aren’t many midfielders in the game now that can attack and defend – affect the game at both ends.

“When you are one of the super clubs, there are talents out there that make you think if we have the capacity and financial muscle, then he’s one you don’t want to miss.”

United reportedly went to great lengths to woo Bellingham before he signed with Dortmund last summer, with Sir Alex Ferguson even pitching in by personally showing the youngster around United’s Carrington training base.

Although they were disappointed by Bellingham’s snub, it doesn’t seem to have put them off making another move for the star.

United desperately need to bolster their midfield, with an elite player seemingly being targeted for to amend that next summer.

According to various reports, Bellingham and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice seem to be the two names being considered by the Old Trafford hierarchy.

A deal for Bellingham, whatever the price, looks like a no-brainer for any elite club in Europe right now.

Missing out on Bellingham once again would be bad enough for Solskjaer and United, but losing out to Liverpool would be nothing short of catastrophic.

Liverpool’s interest was recently confirmed by Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently, but he emphasised that — unlike with Erling Haaland — there is no release clause in the youngster’s contract.

“There’s a lot of interest around Jude Bellingham, not only Liverpool,” Kehl told Sport1.

“But there is no bottom line and no exit clause.”
