Liverpool’s record 5-0 win at Man Utd: Solskjaer at ‘rock bottom’

Paul Pogba reportedly ignored Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s demand to ‘not do anything stupid’ in Manchester United’s 5-0 hammering by bitter rivals Liverpool last weekend.

The World Cup winner was named on the bench by Solskjaer and watched on as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds smashed four past Man United in the first half at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer introduced Pogba to the match in the second half with Mason Greenwood coming off in place of the Frenchman.

But after just 15 minutes on the pitch, Pogba recklessly launched into a challenge with Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and connected with the Guinean’s ankle.

Pogba was initially shown a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor before a VAR check saw this upgraded to a red.

According to GQ, Solskjaer spoke to Pogba before substituting him on and warned him ‘not to do anything stupid’.

Solskjaer wanted to limit the damage and was aware that a sending off could result in a cricket score.

But Pogba reportedly failed to take his manager’s demand on board and was shown a straight red just 15 minutes after coming on.

Keita was taken off the pitch on a stretcher following the challenge but was fortunate to avoid a serious injury.

Klopp’s assistant at Liverpool, Pep Lijnders, provided an update on his condition, saying: “Naby has a bruise at this moment. We assess it day by day. It’s looking good, so that’s good.

“It was a bad tackle. But luckily Naby’s foot was not on the ground so it’s just a bruise. It would have looked much worse had his foot been in the grass. A bruise is painful, of course.”

After the match, Pogba took to Instagram to post a message to the distraught United fans.

“No time to feel sorry for ourselves,” wrote the Frenchman. “Wake up, step up and make the next days better!”
