A mum has spent the past four years in a vegetative state after her heart stopped during a liposuction treatment.

Sabina Abbas, 32, wanted to feel better about her body and booked an appointment for liposuction and a nose job at a private clinic.

The mum-of-two was operated on by a doctor who has only been identified by his initials A. F. at the clinic, in July 2017.

During the operation, in which liposuction and rhinoplasty were performed simultaneously, Sabina’s heart rate suddenly stopped, according to local media outlet Haberler.

Doctors managed to restart the patient’s heart after about four minutes and she was rushed to hospital.

Sabina, from the Turkish province of Antalya, lost consciousness during the operation, then entered a vegetative state.

She is still in that state today and her husband Rustem Abbas blames the clinic for his wife’s condition.

Rustem has reportedly filed a complaint against the plastic surgeon and the anesthesiologist, who has only been identified as E. O.

Rustem said his wife had been hospitalised for four years in total, including two years in the intensive care unit.

Sabina has been left in a vegetative state for four years

He said: “My son Demir was three months old and my daughter Yanesk was two years old when my wife went into a vegetative state. Our lives became a living hell.

“My wife’s heart stopped for four minutes during the operation. Doctors told me at first ‘she will get better’, then they transferred her to another branch of the hospital in the city centre.

“She’s only 32 years old. We have two children, one is six years old and the other is four years old now. They are waiting for their mum to come home.”

Rustem added: “The hospital wants to discharge my wife. She walked into the hospital, she should be able to walk out. I don’t want my wife discharged until she has fully recovered.

“They called me to the hospital to discharge my wife last night with the help of the police, but I didn’t agree.”

Rustem said that his legal battle is ongoing.
