Mohamed Salah was unable to show his best at Chelsea

Salah lifts lid on Chelsea exit

Salah has said he felt as though the time was right for him to leave Chelsea in 2015, clearing the path for him to become one of the best players on the planet.

After struggling for minutes at Stamford Bridge, Salah enjoyed loan spells with Fiorentina and Roma, before joining the latter on a permanent deal.

Speaking in an interview ahead of AFCON, the 29-year-old said he put himself under a lot of mental pressure during his time with the Blues.

“When I look back, [I had] bad advice with the situation,” he said. “”It was so tough for me, mentally. I couldn’t handle the pressure I had from the media, coming from outside. I was not playing that much. I felt, ‘No, I need to go’.”

Salah tops Liverpool speed charts

One of the key assets in Salah’s game is his searing speed and the forward has claimed to be fastest player in the current Liverpool squad.

While the Egyptian’s close control and composure in front of goal are both remarkable attributes, the pace of his forward surges are arguably his most devastating attribute.

Liverpool have a number of rapid players in their ranks in Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, although Salah believes he would get the better of them all.

“When there is a ball in the space, I am the fastest,” he said. “Virgil is very fast, Sadio is fast, Joe Gomez is very fast, but I’m always choosing myself.”

Arsenal facing injury crisis

Liverpool may come up against a depleted Arsenal squad on Thursday, with Mikel Arteta set to be without a number of midfield options.

With Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny on international duty and Emile Smith Rowe and Granit Xhaka both potentially unavailable, the Gunners may have to call on makeshift options in the middle of the park.

Martin Odegaard and Albert Sambi Lokonga are the only other two senior options available for Arsenal.

Liverpool were without a number of key players for the FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury Town on Sunday too and it will be intriguing to see what senior players return for the semi-final.
