Tottenham 0-3 Manchester United: Solskjaer press conference

Manchester United’s much-needed 3-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday has dampened down speculation about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future.

Solskjaer was on the brink following the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool last weekend but has bought himself some precious time with the performance in north London.

While the Norwegian is safe for a bit longer, the result has not put a stop to transfer rumours, with the January window now just two months away.

United have a large stable of players and not all of them are happy after the decisive victory over Spurs.

The January transfer window could well see movement both in and out of Old Trafford. Here are the latest rumours involving the club.

Paul Pogba is out of contract in the summer and every day that goes by without the midfielder signing a new deal will see speculation heighten.

United have offered the 28-year-old a new contract, but for now he is keeping his options open.

Sport Italia reports that a return to Juventus is Pogba’s preferred destination, although the Italian club would need to sell Aaron Ramsey and one of Weston McKennie and Adrien Rabiot to make it happen.

ESPN reports that United are preparing for the eventuality of losing Pogba on a free transfer in July, while Marca says Real Madrid are ‘looking closely’ at both Pogba and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.

The Spanish newspaper says that Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is no longer seen as a potential issue in a deal being done this summer.

Erling Haaland is a player who is likely to be on the shopping list of many clubs this summer, given the reported £63million (€75m) release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract.

United are one of a whole host of teams who have been linked with the Norwegian superstar, so they won’t want to hear what Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had to say this weekend after speaking to Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke.

“I recently had an espresso with my ex-colleague Aki Watzke in Munich”, Rummenigge wrote in his column for Bild.

“He told me that he was very optimistic that Haaland would still play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”

It remains to be seen if that confidence translates into reality, but it seems Dortmund are ready to play hard ball next summer.

United are not just considering players of Haaland’s status – they also have their eyes focused closer to home.

Manchester City have high hopes for their next batch of academy graduates, but they are worried their rivals could be about to poach one of their brightest talents from under their noses.

While Cole Palmer and Liam Delap have recently signed new five-year deals with City, James McAtee, who has been dubbed the Salford Silva, is yet to follow suit.

The Sun reports that both United and Liverpool have expressed an interest in the 19-year-old midfielder who made his debut in City’s 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe in September.

The England Under-20 international has 18 months left on his current deal but has yet to sign up to a new £8,000 per week contract with City.
