Solskjaer previews Man Utd v Liverpool in Premier League

Manchester United and Liverpool are set to take on Mino Raiola in the transfer window with one player in their sights.

Ajax are desperate to keep hold of Ryan Gravenberch, who is contracted until June 2023.

The midfielder is the latest player to be reeled off the production line in Amsterdam, which has included the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong in recent years.

The 19-year-old has already made 72 appearances for Ajax and has been tipped for stardom with several clubs interested in his services.

Among the potential suitors are United and Liverpool, who are keen on bolstering their midfields.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a tough start to the season and much of his problems have been put down to the fact that the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic have struggled.

Whereas Liverpool are yet to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who left for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer for a free transfer.

The Dutchman was an integral part of the Reds squad under Jurgen Klopp and Gravenberch had been linked with a move in the summer.

With both Premier League clubs rivalling for the teenager, any talks opened would mean going through Raiola.

The agent has had his run-ins with United in the past, even taking a pop at Solskjaer over his handling of Paul Pogba.

Raiola is renowned for getting his client and himself the best possible deal and Gravenberch’s future remains a top priority of the Dutchman.

But that could see the youngster extend his contract at Ajax, with De Telegraaf reporting that they are set to offer him a new deal.

The Netherlands international made his debut for the Eredivisie outfit at the age of 16 and they are desperate to keep hold of him.

And even the player’s father has implored him to remain at Ajax, saying: “He has to take that last step at Ajax. He just has to and he hasn’t done that yet.

“I want him to fully mature at Ajax, so as far as I’m concerned he will just stay at Ajax.

“He has only played one full season now and that was of course quite good, but next season he will have to play even better.

“Then, despite his age, he really must be one of the key players, especially if he plays in the European Championship [with the Netherlands].

Ajax are trying to get Ryan Gravenberch to sign a new contract

“Next season, he will not get away with it in the dressing room if he plays poorly several games in a row.

“I really think he should take a step at Ajax first. He has to climb in the hierarchy and stand up more for himself within the squad.

“I’m not going to push him to do that, that makes no sense to Ryan. But he also realises that. He also thinks it is best for him to stay at Ajax.”
