Manchester City coasted to a routine victory over neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Pep Guardiola ranking it as one of his side’s most dominant showings
Ilkay Gundogan claims playing Manchester United at the moment is “really fun” after his Manchester City side cruised to victory at Old Trafford.
City only ran out 2-0 winners, but barely got out of second gear in the second half, with the champions passing their local rivals into submission.
It was a showing which magnified the huge chasm in quality between the two Manchester clubs.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted his team are some way away from the genuine title challengers and are already nine points behind league leaders Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola’s men enjoyed 68% possession and completed just over 400 passes more than United managed.

David de Gea made a string of impressive stops in the opening 45 minutes, but was partly at fault for Bernardo Silva’s goal on the stroke of half time.
And Gundogan admitted that the game was very enjoyable and suggested that City could have been well clear by the time the half-time whistle went.
“It was really fun, quite enjoyable,” Gundogan said. “It was a great first half where we could have scored more goals. It could have been 3-0 or 4-0 at half-time. Their keeper made some incredible saves.
“The second half was about staying patient, keeping the ball, keeping possession, passing the ball, getting into a certain rhythm and not giving them any chances.
“I don’t remember that they had any chances in the second half.”
Guardiola elected to make no substitutions in the second period thanks to just how dominant his charges were.
“The game was 2-0 and everything was comfortable. I felt I didn’t need to change,” he explained.
Asked if he was happy with scoring just two goals, the City boss added: “It is OK. I am so demanding, we are so demanding for ourselves but I am very pleased.
“This is the game we needed. They [United] are so dangerous. That is why we had a game with a lot of control.

“Maybe this was the game that we dominated for the most time. Except for 10 minutes of the second half, the other 80 minutes were absolutely under control.
“In some games we are good but not for as long as this.
“Maybe you are right, it is a game we controlled more specifically. We know each other better, we know the opponent better.”
