Love Island’s Chris Hughes supports ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson after blackfishing drama

Chris Hughes and Jesy Nelson began dating in 2019, but split up in March 2020, and while they’ve both gone on to date other people, the former couple have been supportive of one other since their break-up

Former Love Island star Chris Hughes has shown his support for ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson after her blackfishing drama.

Last month, the singer was embroiled in a bitter public spat with her former Little Mix bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who had reportedly accused Jesy of blackfishing in her new video for her debut solo single Boyz.

Messages that were alleged to be from Leigh-Anne to a friend revealed she wanted Jesy to be exposed for blackfishing, which is when a white person uses hair and cosmetics to make them look like they have black heritage.

Rapper Nicki Minaj even waded into the drama, but Jesy has also received support from her ex-boyfriend Chris, who sweetly praised her new single Boyz.

He told new! magazine he heard Jesy’s single “on the radio”, and said while it was “different”, it was a good track.

“No matter what industry or line of work you’re in, it’s always good to do things different, and the song sounded good to me on the radio,” Chris shared.

The couple split after more than a year of dating

Alluding to the recent drama surrounding Jesy, the former Love Island star said he doesn’t really use Twitter so has managed to avoid seeing most of the blackfishing drama unfold on social media.

“I haven’t seen or read too much into it. I wouldn’t be able to comment,” he said.

The couple began dating in early 2019, and went Instagram official with their budding romance just a few months later, as they shared snaps from a trip to Dublin with their followers.

Later that year, the couple even discussed marriage, and he was a pillar of support when Jesy’s heartbreaking documentary Odd One Out, in which she discussed the vicious trolling she had received since being in Little Mix, was released in late 2019.

Chris has found love with new girlfriend Annabel Dimmock

He appeared to make a dig at ex Jesy when he gushed over his new romance

However, just weeks into the Covid lockdown in March 2020, the pair called time on their romance, leading a devastated Chris to delete his Twitter account after being harassed by Jesy’s fans.

Chris recently appeared to make a dig at his ex as he gushed over his new girlfriend, golfer Annabel Dimmock.

He told MailOnline that his relationship with the sportswoman was “so different” to anything he’s experienced before.

“I was fascinated by her from the day I met her. I haven’t had that in an awfully long time. It’s so different this relationship.

“This is the first time in my life where I’ve genuinely looked forward to the future,” Chris cryptically stated.
