Comedian John Bishop has opened up about the heartbreaking split from wife of almost 30 years. He revealed that the pair grew apart, which is what caused the split
Comedian-turned-actor John Bishop has opened up about the heartbreaking split from his wife, Melanie, where he revealed how he “couldn’t stop the tears” when he realised that she might meet another man.
Opening up to The Mirror, John spoke about how he and his wife of 28 years fell out of love as their marriage faded.
Speaking about the split back in 2014, John told The Mirror: “There was no huge fight or revelation about someone else.
“We just grew apart. Maybe it had something to do with having three kids so quickly. For six years there was always someone in the house in nappies. Our marriage just faded.
“You realise that the person you wanted to spend your life with no longer wants to be with you, or you with them. Suddenly it felt like walking round the house with drawing pins in your shoes.”
He also spoke about how realising that Melanie could meet another man one day ‘cut him in half’.
He said: “The realisation cut me in half. I couldn’t stop the tears from falling as I tried to get wellies on the lads.

“No man wants to cry in front of his sons but it’s even worse when you don’t know why you’re doing it.’”
Luckily, a plot twist occurred and the split between John and Melanie was short lived, and after an 18 month split, the pair rekindled their romance.
Melanie visited a comedy club to find John telling jokes about killing her and keeping her head in the fridge because he ‘knew that he would miss her’.
He spent the entire act cracking jokes about their marriage, but Melanie saw the funny side of it.

He said: “We met up after the show and she said seeing me up there reminded her of me as I used to be. When I was a good laugh.”
John and Melanie remain happily married, with the pair living on a farm in rural Cheshire.
This comes as it has been confirmed that John will star in Doctor Who series 13 as the companion alongside star Jodie Whittaker.
The comedian was recently announced as the new companion following the exit of Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole.
