Jack Angel dead: The Smurfs and Scooby-Doo voice actor dies aged 90

Jack Angel – who lent his voice to several big TV shows and movies as a voice actor – has died

Voice actor Jack Angel has died.

The sad news of the star’s passing at 90 was shared by the talent agency that represented him throughout his career, which is owned by his wife Arlene Thornton.

In a statement, the Californian agency said: “We are deeply saddened to share the sad news that our beloved Jack Angel has passed away.

“Business will be continued during this difficult time. We will share more information as we receive it but we do ask everyone to kindly respect Arlene’s privacy during this period of mourning.”

Jack voiced characters in Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo and The Smurfs in the early 1980s as well as having parts in the Transformers: The Movie, Omega Supreme, Ultra Magnus.

Other shows on his CV included him voicing roles for many well-known 1980s cartoons, including G.I. Joe, The Real Ghostbusters, DuckTales, Jem, Superman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

He also worked on Peter Pan and the Pirates, Tiny Toon Adventures, Talespin and Darkwing Duck, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog, Bonkers, The Mask, Casper and voiced Nick Fury in Spider-Man.

Jack also worked with Nickelodeon and Rugtats, Hey Arnold!, The Wild Thornberrys, My Life as a Teenage Robot, El Tigre and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Following the news of Jack’s passing several fans took to social media to mourn the star.
One Twitter user wrote: “RIP Jack Angel. A man of many voices from our collective childhoods, but I will always remember him best as Bud Flood, aka the loquacious Liquidator! My deepest condolences to his friends and family.”
Another added: “RIP Jack Angel. Forever a legend. He gives us all words to live by: “Just go be who you are. Be as wonderful as you are. Be in love with yourself. And don’t let anybody tell you anything different.”
A third joined in: “RIP Jack Angel. Such a wonderful human being and nobody, NOBODY looked better in a black leather jacket. Smooth as his voice…
