Hear’Say cancel plans for 20th anniversary reunion after Kym Marsh’s family illness

Hear’Say reportedly had to cancel their plans for a 20th-anniversary reunion as Kym Marsh wants to spend time with her ill father.

The British pop group hit it big after forming on ITV ‘s reality TV talent show Popstars back in 2001.

The singer, 45, Suzanne Shaw, Myleene Klass, Danny Foster and Noel Sullivan made up the famous five-piece having sparkled on the series, which spawned rival shows Pop Idol and The X Factor.

Suzanne had said the group were in talks about reuniting for their 20th anniversary, but it looks like it has been put on hold.

A music insider explained: “A Hear’Say reunion would be really fun but these things take a lot of planning and hard work.

There were reports that the group would reunite for the 20th anniversary

“Covid put a dampener on it because they couldn’t even start thinking about putting their plans into action until restrictions eased.”

They continued to The Sun : “But now Kym is completely consumed with spending time with her father Dave after he was diagnosed with incurable cancer. He has to be her priority right now and the other members completely respect and understand that.”

The insider went on to say that a reunion could be happening in the future.

Mirror have contacted Kym’s reps for comment.

Suzanne opened up about their plans back in June and said that the group were talking about doing the reunion this year.

However, Suzanne and her former bandmates were in talks about a potential reunion last year until the coronavirus pandemic postponed a possible comeback.

“I’d definitely be up for it. Life’s too short to worry about whether it’s cool!” revealed Suzanne.

There could still be a reunion in the future

“The fact that there was a pandemic on our 20 year anniversary definitely meant the stars weren’t aligning for us.

“But I would love to do a one-off concert to mark our 20 years. It’s about proving to my kids that I used to be a pop star!”

The group had a smash debut single and album, but they were left in turmoil after just 18 months together when fellow member Kym quit following rows with Myleene and Noel.

She was replaced by former Boom! Singer Johnny Shentall, but the band failed to fire after that and the group finally split in October 2002.

Hear’Say’s breakthrough single Pure and Simple raced to No 1 with a record 550,000 sales in its first week as the band instantly found fame after their TV start.
