Will Haaland leave Dortmund this summer?

Gary Neville has jibed Mino Raiola over Manchester United’s pursuit of Erling Haaland in the transfer window.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has become one of the most sought-after players in the world after a fantastic start to his career.

Since joining the Bundesliga outfit, the Norway international has scored 70 times in 69 appearances in all competitions – including 13 this season in 10 matches.

It has been reported that a release clause worth £68m will come into effect in the summer while a number of clubs are desperate to snap up the 21-year-old.

Among them include Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and United – but the latter had the chance to sign him sooner.

In January 2020, Haaland had just begun making a name for himself with RB Salzburg after a jaw-dropping start to the season.

In 22 matches, he had netted 28 times and it did not take long for other clubs to come sniffing around.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows the player well having coached him at Norway side Molde and United were desperate to snap up the youngster.

But Haaland – managed by controversial agent Raiola – signed for Dortmund instead, snubbing a bigger offer from the Red Devils to do so.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “Our offer for Erling Haaland was not the best. The offer from Manchester United was better. However, Mino Raiola realised that Erling is better with us.”

However, United legend Neville reckons there is a seedier reason why Haaland turned down the offer from Old Trafford.

He tweeted: “Yes and we all know why. He structures his deals with clubs that will give him a large % of the transfer fee when the player leaves!”

Raiola has had problems with United in the past and has frequently made comments about another of his clients Paul pogo.

The France international has long been linked with a transfer away from the Red Devils.

And Neville and Raiola have had a longstanding feud over the years, both taking verbal barbs at one another.

Prior to a crunch clash against RB Leipzig last year in the Champions League, the agent revealed that Pogba was looking to leave United and was unhappy at the club.

When speaking about the incident, Neville said in December 2020: “Manchester United have got a big problem whilst they’ve got a star player in the dressing room who has an agent is categorically going to go out the night before the biggest game of the season. The lack of respect!

“The guy should never be dealt with again by this football club. This football club has got to stand still and look at what is happening.”

In the Sky Sports studio was Micah Richards, who reminded Neville that United would have to deal with Raiola again if they wanted Haaland.

But the ex-England defender stuck to his guns and said: “They can’t go and sign another player with that agent, they cannot do that. Enough is enough!”
