EPOS has a great track record when it comes to delivering fantastic headphones for gamers.

They have a great reputation for pushing the boundaries of excellence when it comes to sound quality, comfort and even pricing.

But EPOS’ most notable quality is that they always strive to innovate their existing products, allowing them to reach new heights.

The H3 was a great headphone that was comfortable with admiral sound quality, there were some niggling issues like the volume wheel, but overall it was a nice piece of kit.

So topping that was never going to be easy, but EPOS is looking to surpass the H3 with the new H3 Hybrid.

EPOS release their long awaited upgrade of the H3 headphones

Firstly the H3 Hybrid looks great, it sports a similar design to the original H3 with a few differences.

The ear cups are really comfortable with their combo of soft velour on the inside and leatherette on the outside. They are also interchangeable and are easy to remove.

The hinges allow them to be adjusted for maximum comfort. They rest well on the ears and feel really pleasant, you almost forget they are there even on long gaming sessions.

The headband adds to the comfort with its satisfying cloth fabric on the top and premium-feeling leatherette on the bottom.

They can easily be adjusted to fit your head shape with the stainless-steel slider featuring a number click stop, that will help you to remember the most comfortable fit.

The housing for the drives is made out of plastic that’s coated in a smart Onyx Black, they also come in Ghost White as well.

The boom arm is finally detachable

They feel strong and durable. The Bluetooth and power buttons are positioned in easily accessible areas that don’t get in the way.

An amazing feature that wasn’t on the original H3 or other gaming headphones, is the ability to detach and reattach the boom arm effortlessly with a magnetic connection.

This allows the H3 Hybrid to be used for music on the go or in the gym allowing it much more than a gaming headphone.

Removing the boom arm won’t leave you mic-less as there is a second smaller microphone that can be used instead.

The H3 Hybrid is a gorgeous product that looks premium while being robust at the same time. It’s really flexible and I never felt it was going to break no matter what shape it took.

My only issue is the volume dial, which still feels a little out of place on the right ear cup. Maybe we can get smaller touch controls in the future.

It features different methods of connectivity

Setting up the H3 Hybrid is very simple and there are a few ways to get to work. Two of the methods require the headphones to be charged to work.

Using the Smart Button’s default function, you can instantly pair the headphones via Bluetooth. You will also be able to connect it via the 3.5 mm to your Playstation 5, Xbox controller and other consoles.

The third and final method is via USB- C on PC which does not require the headphones to be charged.

A great feature is the simultaneous Bluetooth, which allows you to talk on other apps such as discord, use the phone or even have music on in the background while using the USB-C and 3.5mm in some circumstances.

You can also control the volume from each source independently which is an amazing feature, as I chose to have some mellow tunes in the background while playing on my PC.

The overall design is very comfortable

The audio quality is amazing and what you would expect from an EPOS product, I really felt fully immersed within any game I was playing.

It performed admirably on a number of different games like the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where it delivered a beautiful bass.

My main test was to see how it works with the Playstation 5’s 3D audio which I have been using more and more for obvious reasons.

The H3 Hybrid really adapted well and is probably the best headphone I have used with the 3D Audio.

Everything just sounded so crystal clear, whether it was listening to Jin’s sword slicing through enemies in Ghost of Tsushima or hearing the BTs footsteps while they stalk me in Death Stranding, I was very impressed with the quality.

You will also be able to create different audio profiles using the Gaming suite, which can be swapped using the Smart button. The gaming suite is very sophisticated but accessible at the same time.

The volume wheel makes a return

The mic works nicely via the Bluetooth and USB connections, but I felt it sounded the best using the 3.5mm jack.

There’s no feedback, but I did find that there was a slight crackle at high volumes, but this was a very rare occurrence.

As the Hybrid is a digital product it needs to be powered and the battery life is pretty lengthy, you will get about 37 hours via Bluetooth and slightly less using the 3.5mm.

They will last during most sessions, but obviously might not be the best for a long hike or camping trip.

The H3 Hybrid is one of best gaming headset on the market, its robust and comfy build make it a great companion for those long sessions.

It costs £149, but for the quality, you are getting it’s a great investment until EPOS release the next headphone in the H3 series.

EPOS H3 Hybrid gaming headset is out now for £149 and is available from the EPOS website
