Ed Sheeran has revealed his closest popstar pals “want him to fail”.

The chart-topping musician, whose new album Equals recently hit number one, only received a handful of support from three people in the industry – including Stormzy, Dave and Elton John.

Ed, 30, told the Halfcast podcast: “In terms of people that actually root for me and want me to win . . . I know so many artists who, whenever I win, scoff, and actually actively want me to fail.

“But they would never tell me, I just know. I hang around with people and I hear things.”

The musical genius added about the love he feels from UK black musicians: “I feel accepted. It’s the only music community that roots for me.”

Ed said it’s “quite telling” that rappers Stormzy and Dave have emailed to say they like the new album, but none of his pop peers have.

He continued: “Stormzy is the most good-hearted successful person I know that genuinely is overjoyed for my success.”

Doting dad Ed went on to reveal Stormzy, Dave and Elton got in touch with him about the new album and told him what they loved the most about it.

“It’s him, the producer Fraser T Smith, Dave and Elton John who all sent emails this week, in depth, about the album, what they liked about the songs. Dave rang me,” he added.

“I can’t take that for granted, because I don’t have many friends who are famous musicians. I have lots of acquaintances and lots of people who I hang out with, but I would class Stormzy as a brother.”

Recently, the popstar gave his fans a bit more insight into his fame – and what he tries to avoid.

He admitted his rule is to avoid urinals wherever possible.

Ed confessed that he made the decision after fans would try to lean over to take a look at his genitalia while he was using the toilet.

He confessed that if there were no cubicles free, he would make sure he used the very end urinal to try to avoid any peeking.

“There will be 20 urinals and I will stand at an end one and someone will come and stand right next to me just to have a look,” he complained. “So my rule is I usually don’t.”
