Michael Greco has become embroiled in a strange battle to regain his Instagram account from a lookalike hacker.

The former EastEnders star has lost access to his Instagram page, which is now being run by a doppelgänger who is currently posting a series of strange shots on the star’s platform.

Speaking via a statement, Michael, 51, expressed his fear that pictures of his young son may have fallen into the wrong hands and confessed he finds the ordeal “intrusive”.

Over the last 48 hours, a man with an uncanny resemblance to the dad-of-one has been posting to the actor’s 52,000 followers in a variety of poses.

Speaking in a statement to The Sun, Michael confirmed he has been hacked and explained that while Instagram may just be a social media platform, he has concerns regarding pictures of his child.

“It is deeply personal as this person has access to our son Gianluca’s photos,” he told the publication.

“This feels deeply intrusive. Especially as he was seriously ill and in the ICU in Great Ormond Street for the first 7 weeks of his life.

Michael became a first time dad at 50 with girlfriend Helen Harris, welcoming son Gianluca into the world earlier this year.

The couple’s first child together was born six weeks premature and was diagnosed with a rare defect called Gastroschisis.

Elsewhere in his statement, the star went on to confirm that he has been contacted by the person saying if he pays “money they will hand back the account”.

He added: “Pure and utter blackmail.

Ordinarily, for me I wouldn’t care but I feel deeply protective over my son.”

Michael revealed he is in contact with Instagram, who are assisting, and confirmed that in the meantime, any requests sent under his name are not actually from him.

Fans of the Beppe DiMarco actor have been spamming the hacker’s posts with comments and urging Instagram to help with the matter.

“Err mate I think everyone knows this isn’t the real Grec,” one of the star’s followers quipped under the hacker’s latest selfie.

Another added: “Who does this??? Sicko get a life man! Instagram sort it out!”

Prior to the hacker gaining access to his account, the former EastEnders favourite had been celebrity a stint on Holby City with his Instagram followers.

Posted a week ago – before losing his account – Michael shared a snap from the BBC set and gushed about how much he loves his job.

“That’s a wrap!” he captioned the shot.

“Had the best time filming the last few weeks on @bbcholbycity. It’s been an absolute pleasure working on a programme that has had tremendous success for over 20 years.”

He concluded with: “Been a joy back working after such a long lay off due to Covid. #lovemyjob”
