Upon becoming a grandad at the start of the year, the Mick Carter actor and avid West Ham fan made a humourous joke about the timing of his grandson’s arrival.

Shortly after daughter Dani welcomed her first child into the world – with ex Sammy Kimmence – Danny continued to celebrate the news on Twitter.

Alongside a photo of the Premiership league table, he joked: “I think I can safely say that having my first beautiful Grandson was the second best thing to happen to me this week.

“Come on you f***ing Irons.”

The star’s beloved West Ham had seen themselves break into the top four after a successful weekend.

A few months later, new mum Dani confessed her dad “couldn’t stop crying”, as he got to know his new grandson.

Speaking on the Made By Mammas podcast: “My dad didn’t realise [he would be so emotional about being a granddad]. He has been so emotional around Santiago, the other day he was really crying.

“He went: ‘I love babies, but your baby. I have never felt anything like it. I didn’t think I’d feel like this’.

“He hasn’t experienced being a grandad yet, I made him a first time grandad. It has hit him more now.

“He did see me pregnant and getting bigger but seeing me with the baby, it’s like, ‘this is real now’.”

Dani announced the birth of her first child on Instagram in January 2021.

Writing at the time, the reality TV star said: “After a very long day and night finally our special little boy arrived 23/01/2021 weighing 7 pound.

“We are in a complete baby bubble and enjoying every moment, can not believe he is ours, completely in love and so grateful to be his mummy..

“Sending all my love to all the other mommas to be out there in lockdown.. the best experience ever will never forget this day.”
