Cleo Smith and her family ‘cuddled all night’ after missing girl, 4, was rescued – World News

Cleo Smith, 4, went missing from a campsite in Australia two weeks ago following an alleged abduction and was saved during a dramatic police raid at a locked home

Cleo Smith and her family spent their first night back home together after an agonising 18-day ordeal ‘cuddling all night’, say police.

Police who rescued the four-year-old this week said the relieved family had slept in the same room on Wednesday night after being reunited.

It followed a frantic search effort that led to the miraculous discovery of the child following a raid at a home in Carnarvon.

A man has since been arrested after the rescue effort that saw the little girl found safe and well.

Western Australian Deputy Police Commissioner Col Blanch went on to say that he believed Cleo and her family slept in the same room and “cuddled all night” after she made it back home to them.

He told 2GB: “Ellie and Jake had been through 18 days of hell and I know Australia have felt that with them.

“They had a small amount of hope, but I thought they probably thought they were never going to give her a cuddle again.

“I’m pretty sure they all slept in the same room just cuddling all night.”

Detectives earlier announced that the toddler had been found alive nearly three weeks after she mysteriously disappeared.

A man, who was not at home at the time, was subsequently taken in for questioning.

Cleo first went missing from the Blowholes Shacks site in Carnarvon, north of Perth, on October 16.

Her family had feared the worst, but after her rescue following a dramatic raid in the early hours of Wednesday, mum Ellie Smith posted on Instagram: “Our family is whole again.”

And a picture was also posted on social media of Cleo smiling and waving in a hospital bed after she was found with the caption: “The miracle we all hoped for.”

The girl was alone in the house at the time, with the man later pictured in the back of an ambulance with what appeared to be a head injury.

The suspect is not known to Cleo’s family, police said earlier.
