Thomas Tuchel previews Burnley clash

Chelsea may not have hit top gear yet this season, which is ominous for the rest of the Premier League.

The Blues go into this weekend’s showdown with Burnley knowing a win would guarantee them top spot over the international break.

With Manchester City taking on Manchester United in Saturday’s early kick off and Liverpool facing a tricky trip to West Ham United on Sunday, Chelsea will fancy their chances of extending their advantage over the next couple of days.

Even so, manager Thomas Tuchel will want to see more from his players in the weeks to come and there is unsurprisingly a lot of speculation around the club in regards to possible transfers.

Mirror Sport has the latest transfer news stories on the Blues, with a number of players linked with possible departures.

Real Madrid join Rudiger race

According to AS,Real Madrid will seek to capitalise on Antonio Rudiger’s contract situation and try to sign the German international.

Los Blancos lost Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the summer, and although they signed David Alaba, it would not be a surprise to see them in the market for another commanding central defender.

Rudiger has established himself as exactly that with the Blues and concerns are growing among Chelsea supporters that he is yet to pen a new deal.

The former Roma man’s contract expires at the end of the season and teams from overseas can approach him in January with a view to signing a pre-contract and moving clubs for free in the summer.

Mourinho looking at Chelsea for transfers

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football Italia ), Roma manager Jose Mourinho is looking at his former club Chelsea in an effort to bolster his squad.

In the report, it’s said Rudiger – a former Roma player – and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are admired by the Portuguese coach.

Given Roma are far from Champions League regulars, it would be a shock if Rudiger ended up moving back to the Stadio Olimpico.

Mourinho is said to be eyeing Chelsea players in January.

Loftus-Cheek has struggled for minutes with Chelsea in recent years, although he has slowly worked his way back into contention under Tuchel.

Roma currently sit in fourth in Serie A after a solid start to the campaign under the former Blues, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur boss.

Tuchel talks up Gallagher

Crystal Palace’s hopes of landing Conor Gallagher on a permanent basis appear unlikely, with Tuchel showering the young midfielder with praise ahead of the weekend matches.

The midfielder has been Palace’s standout performer this season, turning in a number of all-action displays and scoring three goals in the Premier League, including the second in a 2-0 success at Manchester City last weekend.

Messi and Ronaldo’s time will soon end, but who is set to be their heir apparent?

“He is not hard to follow because he is standing out every single matchday so it’s an easy one to follow and credit to him,” said Tuchel.

“We had long talks in pre-season and we imagined he could stay and fight for his place here. But we decided that when the talks came up with Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace, he understood the role he could have in the Premier League at the club. He wanted to take the challenge.”
