The former Manchester City star and current Barcelona forward has been ruled out of action for the next three months after suffering from chest pains in a La Liga contest last month
Sergio Aguero has spoken out via social media addressing rumours that his retirement could be imminent due to being diagnosed with a heart condition.
The Barcelona star will be unavailable to the Catalan giants for at least three months after he was taken off during a match against Alaves at the end of last month following chest pains.
Following that, the 33-year-old then underwent cardiac tests at hospital as a precaution – but local radio outlet Catalunya Radio has reported the striker may have to consider calling time on his illustrious playing career altogether.
However, the Manchester City icon has already broken his silence and taken to twitter to write: “Amid the rumours, I’m telling you that I’m following the indications of the club’s doctors, undergoing tests and treatment and seeing my progress within 90 days. Always positive!”

Aguero sat and received treatment on the turf for several minutes during October’s 1-1 home draw with Alaves, before being hauled off for good at half-time.
In worrying scenes, the striker then left the Camp Nou in an ambulance – Barca later updating fans with a statement that read: “He is unavailable for selection and, during the next three months, the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process.”
After being taken to hospital, Aguero issued worried fans with an update, revealing: “I am well and in good spirits to face the recovery process. I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and love that make my heart stronger today.”
This is just the latest incident in what has been an underwhelming start to life as Barca’s leading man.
Aguero arrived at the club carrying an injury that kept him side-lined for the opening exchanges of the La Liga season, before the striker eventually made his debut in early October.
With one Barcelona goal to his name, Aguero only made five appearances for the club before a potential heart condition was identified.
Over the course of his three month absence, Aguero’s health will be consistently monitored by club officials before any kind of decision over his return can be made.

The striker has the support of former boss Pep Guardiola, who told the media: “We wish him well from all the people here at Manchester City, we wish him a safe recovery.
“The time doesn’t matter. Health and life are much more important than anything else.
“We wish him as speedy and safe recovery as possible and he comes back, if possible, to play again, otherwise to enjoy his life and what he has done, and to be careful and be safe for the rest of his life.”
