All the hints Taylor Swift has secretly married Joe Alwyn – wedding dress and new lyric

Taylor Swift is the queen of reinvention – and today she is releasing new recordings of an old album, Red, on her own terms.

The 2012 album was sold off to Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun in 2019 along with the rest of her back catalogue, and Taylor was reportedly unable to buy it back as he sold it on to a private equity firm called Shamrock Holdings.

Because of this, Taylor has re-recorded her old music and released it again with the pointed caveat (Taylor’s version) next to it.

It’s been a busy few years for Taylor, who has publicly hit out at Scooter several times for purchasing her music, while he responded that there was no malicious intent behind his actions.

She also famously shook off a scandal when she was accused of lying by Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, the latter of whom released footage from a phone call with the singer where they spoke about him using the line ‘I made that b**** famous” in one of his songs.

He was referring to the infamous moment he interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech at the VMAs, storming up on stage to announce Beyonce deserved the win, not her.

Taylor claimed she didn’t agree to being called a “b****” and she didn’t approve the song’s “misogynistic message”.

In response, Kim hinted that Taylor was a “snake” in a tweet celebrating “national snake day”, leading to her fans littering Taylor’s social media comment section with snake emojis.

Taylor fell off the radar for several years before releasing her comeback album Reputation in 2017, in which she sang about being hated and gossiped about.

Having taking some time away from the public eye, Taylor appeared strong and keen for vengeance, and her lyrics insisted she no longer cared about what people thought about her.

And something that may have informed her new carefree attitude was her new boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn.

Taylor and Joe kept their romance under wraps for a while – in stark contrast to the publicity stunts with her exes Tom Hiddleston and Calvin Harris.

They are thought to have met at the 2016 Met Gala, and were subsequently spotted at a Kings of Leon concert and at Taylor’s home in Nashville where it was presumed Joe was meeting his girlfriend’s family.

In 2017, Taylor released a diary entry from January that read: “We have been together and no one has found out for 3 months now. I want it to stay that way because I don’t want anything about this to change or become too complicated or intruded upon.”

She admitted to fans in 2017 that her loved up song Gorgeous was about A Christmas Carol star Joe, and pal Ed Sheeran corroborated this before calling Joe a “really friendly, really good dude”.

Holiday snaps Taylor and Joe posted on their separate accounts in the exact same spot in the desert confirmed they were travelling together in 2018, and Taylor urged her fans to go and watch Joe’s film The Favourite in the cinema.

The following year, Taylor and Joe were much more relaxed about regularly being papped together and her song London Boy was thought to be about the North London-based actor.

Rumours soon began to swirl that the couple were engaged, with a source telling US Weekly: “Joe wants to marry [Taylor] and she wants to marry him. He’s just waiting to find the perfect time to propose. He wants to make it unforgettable and extremely special.

“Taylor’s friends are all talking about a proposal and how she really wants to marry Joe. He’s her dream guy.”

And many of her fans are currently convinced that Joe and Taylor have actually secretly tied the knot.

Internet sleuths dedicated to studying Taylor’s every move have spotted hints they are married or at least engaged, including when Taylor released her song ME! in April 2019, and she confirmed to fans: “There’s a secret in the video I’ve been keeping for months – let’s see who can guess it.”

In the video, Taylor can be seen with a big rock on her engagement ring finger, and viewers wondered if that was her way of announcing the special news – thought others thought she was announcing she’d adopted the cat who made a cameo.

She was also spotted wearing the same ring in her documentary, Miss Americana.

“I low key think Taylor Swift is straight up married to Joe forget the fact we all saw that big a** engagement ring in the doc,” tweeted one viewer.

But some of her fans claimed instead that the ring had a cat’s face on it, not a diamond.

When Taylor re-released her song Love Story at the end of 2020, fans listened carefully and were certain she’d changed the original lyrics “baby, just say yes,” to “baby just said yes”.

A fan tweeted: “Wait why aren’t we talking about the fact that taylor said ‘it’s a love story baby just SAID yes’ i just saw a tiktok and i didn’t even notice until the girl pointed it out omg original lyrics are baby just say yes is our queen trying to tell us something”.

In her folk album Evermore, released in the same year, Taylor included a song named Willow, and to promote it she wrote a tweet that said: “Tonight the story continues, as the music video for ‘willow’ drops at midnight eastern.”

Alongside the tweet was a photo of Taylor in an ivory lace gown with a white flower crown on her head – leading to a frenzy of speculation it was a wedding dress.

One fan replied: “MA’AM IS THAT A WEDDING DRESS”.

“That’s a wedding dress and you can’t change my mind about that,” declared another.

In the same album was a song named Ivy, where Taylor sings about “drinking my husband’s wine”.

In Taylor’s song Lover, she also references weddings in the lyric “my heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue. All’s well that ends well, to end up with you”.

Her legion of followers noticed this mirrored the old wedding adage “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”, suggesting she’d got married already.

Taylor also posted a photo on Instagram with those lyrics as the caption, and fans noticed there was string tied around her finger – perhaps hinting she had “tied the knot”.

Joe, Taylor and their respective families have so far refused to comment on whether the couple have really walked down the aisle or are engaged.

“I’m sorry, I’m not going to say anything,” laughed a member of Joe’s family when contacted by the MailOnline.

But since this wasn’t a straight denial – it was confirmation to many of Taylor’s adoring fans that the romantic rumours were indeed true.
