Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reviews Manchester City defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s luck took another hit after Paul Pogba was dealt a serious injury while training with France.

The midfielder suffered a thigh problem on international duty that could rule him out for eight weeks – the rest of 2021.

That will see the 28-year-old miss two Champions League matches and potentially 10 Premier League games.

With Solskjaer already under huge pressure at Manchester United, following hefty losses to Liverpool and Manchester City, the last thing he needs is an injury crisis on his hands.

But the Red Devils are blessed with one of the best academies in the country – so who could be brought in to fill the Pogba-shaped gap in the squad?

Hannibal Mejbri

One player who could be immediately brought into the squad is Hannibal, who has already impressed coaches at the club.

The Tunisia international has that tinge of flair that Solskjaer adores in Pogba but his temperament has been a problem.

However, this season the ex-Monaco starlet seems to have grounded his petulance much more and is becoming a more mature and well-rounded player.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen

The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils in August and there are high hopes for the teenager.

Hansen-Aaroen is regarded as one of Norway’s best talents in recent years, joining the likes of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard in a mini-golden generation for the Scandinavian country.

The youngster has already played senior football after appearing for former club Tromso last year.

Charlie Savage

One player currently in the United academy that could slot in midfield is Savage, son of former Premier League player and BT pundit Robbie Savage.

His inclusion would certainly create a media storm and would see him go one step ahead of his dad – who also came up through the United academy but never made an appearance for the club.

The 18-year-old has impressed in both defending and attacking in midfield but sees himself as more technically proficient than his tenacious father.

Zidane Iqbal

One of the more longstanding members of the United academy, Iqbal signed as a nine-year-old and has many similar attributes to Pogba.

The 18-year-old has impressive skills and can play either as a box-to-box or a No. 10.

If the teenager can live up to his namesake, then United have already got an absolute gem of a player on their hands.

Martin Svidersky

One player that could fill the gap that might be needed more than ever is Svidersky, who is more defensively-minded.

The Slovakian has been noted as a genius by some of his peers and signed in 2018.

There are high hopes that the teenager can replace Nemanja Matic in the long-term – which would solve one of Solskjaer’s biggest problems.
