Maruti Suzuki has been testing the facelifted version of Baleno premium hatchback for some time. According to Autocar India, the updated version of Maruti Baleno will be launched in February. Price of the updated Maruti Baleno is also expected to be announced at the time of launch. Maruti Baleno is one of the most popular premium hatchbacks sold in the country. It competes with cars like Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Tata Altroz and Volkswagen Polo in the segment. Ever since its launch, Baleno has not received any major updates.
The upcoming 2022 version of the Maruti Baleno will see number of cosmetic changes. The pictures of the 2022 Baleno had already leaked online and several render images of the same are also available. Starting with the exterior, Maruti Baleno will get a redesigned front. It will come with a larger and wider grille. The grille is designed in a way that it is extended towards the headlamp.
The headlamp also gets a new design. It is a revised version of the existing unit but, it gets an L-shaped design to it. There are LED DRLs and the lights are likely to be projector units in higher variants. The bumper on this hatchback has also been redesigned and it looks a lot more sharper than the outgoing model. The lower air dam and the fog lamps have also been redesigned.
On the side profile, the overall design of the car remains unchanged. Coming to the rear the Baleno looks sleeker than the current version that we have in the market. The main reason behind this look is the redesigned tail lamps. The sleeker looking L-shaped split tail lamps, redesigned bumper and tail gate also play a crucial role in giving it a different look .
Just like the exterior, Maruti has also made some changes to the interior of the car. The main change in the 2022 Baleno’s interior is the dashboard. It now gets an all-new dashboard with a layered design and brushed aluminium inserts. The touchscreen infotainment system in the Baleno is now a free-standing or floating type placed in the centre. The AC vents have also been slightly redesigned to accommodate the new screen.
Other changes include new switches for AC control, a flat bottom steering wheel which is borrowed from Swift and a new instrument cluster with revised MID. According to reports, the new touchscreen infotainment screen in the Baleno will support connected car features. This system is already introduced in the all-new S-Cross internationally. The touchscreen is expected to support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and offer other features like cruise control, auto headlamps and rain sensing wipers.
Maruti will only be giving Baleno a cosmetic update. There are no mechanical changes expected to be seen in the car. The car. It will be powered by a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 81 Bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox option. Maruti is also working on a facelift for Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza.
